Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” John 1:38
Relationship with Jesus can easily be reduced to behavior modification, to a philosophy, or an emotional experience. We rob ourselves of the very life of our relationship when we overlook the impact of simply being with Jesus. Many seek to minimize their faith to resemble other religions or philosophies that men have constructed. Yet this life with Jesus is the standard by which all other lifestyles must be evaluated.
In the passage above, the disciple Andrew posed a profound question when he found Jesus. He asked, “Where are you staying?” Maybe Andrew realized that moving in with Jesus was the key to getting close to the living God? It is only in being where He lives that we find fulfillment. In literally being with Him, He fuses into us supernatural power. He deposits into us His wisdom and passions when we enter into His presence. It is God’s desire to meet with us and for us to literally experience Him daily. Hearing and experiencing Jesus every day isn’t an option to the believer; it is the very source of the Christian life. Being with Him isn’t a matter of going to a specific location; no, it is done by making time to daily talk with him. I am not referencing having a specific “devotion time,” although this is a powerful discipline. No, I’m talking about a constant conversation with the Holy Spirit. The location, if you will, is within you. He is where you go, but it is your intentional awareness of Him that brings His reality crashing into our own. If you pursue Him, you will find Him. (Jer. 29:13)
Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. John 14:23
